Graded and ungraded are different descriptions
An ordinary silver bullion coin does not become graded because the image is sharp or it is supplied in a capsule. Third-party grading involves a service assessment and a labelled holder. Confirm whether the item being offered is certified and which service, grade and certification number apply.
Two parts of the price
The metal content provides one reference point. The issue, condition, holder and collector demand may add a premium. That premium can be substantial relative to the silver content. Ask for an explanation of the specific issue rather than treating all high-grade silver as one category with a single value.
Condition needs care
Handle the holder carefully and keep it in suitable storage. Do not open the holder or attempt to polish the coin. Toning and other surface characteristics need to be assessed in context; a brighter appearance is not automatically a better collectible. Ask questions about any marks visible in photographs.
Compare before committing
Compare the same issue, grade and service where possible. Establish the full purchase cost, including applicable tax and delivery, and ask how resale would be quoted. A certification record supports identification; it does not tell you what a future collector will pay or whether the product suits your circumstances.
BEFORE YOU DECIDE
Understand the product.
Ask about the details.
Request a current written quotation and confirm all charges, availability and fulfilment terms. Precious metals can fall in value. Collector premiums may not be recovered on resale.
