A size is also a selling unit
A 1kg bar is normally sold as one complete item. Smaller bars allow you to dispose of a smaller portion without selling the whole holding. Consider the amount you might need to realise in a future sale, alongside the total amount you are considering buying now.
Look at the premium per fine gram
Smaller manufactured units can have a higher cost per gram, but this is not a rule to apply without quotations. Divide the full payable amount by the stated fine gold content for a consistent comparison. Make the comparison at the same time and include applicable delivery or handling charges.
A mixed-size holding
Using more than one size can create flexibility, while also increasing the number of items to store and record. Separate invoices or a clear inventory help you keep track of individual purchases. No particular combination is right for every buyer, and splitting a holding does not reduce the underlying metal’s price risk.
Questions before agreeing
Confirm whether the product is cast, minted or designed as a divisible sheet. Ask what happens to resale recognition if packaging is opened or a divisible product is separated. Keep the maker’s instructions and avoid treating an ordinary bar as something that can be cut into marketable pieces at home.
BEFORE YOU DECIDE
Understand the product.
Ask about the details.
Request a current written quotation and confirm all charges, availability and fulfilment terms. Precious metals can fall in value. Collector premiums may not be recovered on resale.
